Grief & Bereavement

Grief counseling is a form of therapy designed to help people process and cope with the loss of a loved one. Experiencing loss leads to both emotional and physical challenges for many people and can make it hard to function. Grief counseling can help a person figure out practical issues they face as well as learn how to adapt to life without their loved one.

While each loss is different, having a safe place to explore your feelings, learn healthy coping skills and reduce the symptoms of trauma that may be present with some losses can help a person find a path forward after loss.

Grief counseling typically includes strategies from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and/or EMDR.

Grief counseling has been shown to have numerous benefits. These include:

  • Reduced emotional and physiological symptoms

  • Improved self-awareness of emotional experiences

  • Improved coping skills

  • Assistance in accepting the loss into your life and finding ways to continue a connection with

    your loved one

  • Help with life transitions/changes
